How many codes can I make?
A job can use at most half of all the possible codes for its charset and length.
The number of possible codes is the charset’s size to the power of the length:
- Numeric: 10 characters
- Alphabetic: 26 characters
- Alphanumeric: 36 characters
So the largest job is charset sizelength ÷ 2. The prefix, suffix and job ID don’t count: only the random part does.
Examples
Section titled “Examples”These figures are worked out from the rule.
| Charset | Length | Possible codes | Largest job |
|---|---|---|---|
| Numeric | 4 | 10,000 | 5,000 |
| Numeric | 6 | 1,000,000 | 500,000 |
| Alphabetic | 3 | 17,576 | 8,788 |
| Alphabetic | 5 | 11,881,376 | 1,000,000 (the per-job maximum) |
| Alphanumeric | 4 | 1,679,616 | 839,808 |
| Alphanumeric | 5 | 60,466,176 | 1,000,000 (the per-job maximum) |
Whatever the rule allows, a single job is at most 1,000,000 codes.
If a job doesn’t fit
Section titled “If a job doesn’t fit”The app says:
It is not mathematically possible to generate that many codes with the given length and charset. Please try a smaller count or a larger length.
Raise the length, choose a larger charset, or lower the count.
